K A R A L A R I C K S Kara Laricks is a fashion designer, writer, inspirational speaker and natural connector. Raised in the Midwest, she earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education followed by a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction both from the University of Kansas. Laricks taught first in Kansas and later in California. While living in San Francisco, Laricks enrolled in the master's program in fashion design at the Academy of Art University and closed the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week graduate fashion show with her menswear inspired S/S 2009 collection. Following a cross country move to New York, Laricks designed, produced and sold her accessory line, Collar, Stand + Tie at local markets throughout New York City. In 2012, Laricks put her design skills to the test and designed her way to the top of NBC's Fashion Star. As the winner of Fashion Star, Laricks designed signature masculine meets feminine capsule collections for H&M, Macy's and Saks Fifth Avenue. Laricks’ designs have been featured on NBC’s The Today Show and HBO’s True Blood as well as on Style.com and in WWD. Kara has traveled the country speaking to audiences about the power of realizing potential and revealing an authentic self. She has shared her personal story as a closeted fourth grade teacher turned out and proud designer and speaker as an advocate for the inclusion and acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community. Today, Kara combines her nurturing nature, a lifelong love of connecting people, the network she's built over the course of her career(s) and of course, her fashion advice, to connect singles in the LGBTQ+ community through Three Day Rule. |
